The Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP) is a member of the NewTechAqua EU-funded project. Its Annual General meeting on the 28th May 2021 was a great opportunity to present some of the deliverables of our project.
Diogo Thomaz from Aquanetix has presented the Broodstock Management module, developed as part of Work Package 4. Focusing on closing the reproduction cycle of economically important species such as the meagre (Argyrosomus regius) and greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili), this work package is coordinated by Prof. Dinos Mylonas, from the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) in Crete, Greece.
Specificities of the Broodstock Management module
The Broodstock Management module allows scientists or technical staff at fish hatcheries to track individually tagged fish. A wide range of data can be collected, from following fish through the facility, tracking movements, mortalities or the composition of breeding groups to recording sampling events in individual fish and following the reproductive performance of the breeding groups.
One of the many advantages of using this tool is the standardisation of broodstock management data, and the ease of analysis of data from one or many trials as well as data collected by different research and commercial organisations. Data can easily be exported for advanced statistical analysis according to the needs of each group, but the core data and information about the broodstock groups is kept in a common relational database.
